Week 7 of Pregnancy

Week 7 of Pregnancy

The baby usually hits a growing spurt around this week.  However, it will probably not be noticable yet, still too small, just 4-5 mm  but could double it’s size by the time week 7 is over with. The arms and legs are starting to grow on the baby and is developing the cerebral hemispheres. It is important the moms take prenatal vitamins and eat correctly to help the baby grow healthy, and mom too.

My Experience

My husband and I have began talking about work, and how we are going to pay for the delivery of our baby.  We both checked out insurances at our work.  Since I haven’t been at my job very long, I do not qualify for insurance right away, and the insurance is a little too high, it’s HMO, and I didn’t think it was a good fit for us.  First of all, I’d have to wait a couple of months for my first prenatal appointment. My husband’s work insurance did not cover me at all, because apparently, pregnancy has to be a pre-existing condition.  I decided to check into my state’s health coverage and found out that we qualify if I work less hours, but it covers my prenatal appointments, the hospital stay and delivery and even extra stuff such as dental care.  This is the route we decided to take.

Week 6 of Pregnancy

Week 6 of Pregnancy

This week, it is normal to continue feeling nauseated, emotional, urinate frequently, bloated, gassy, and smells may be really strong.  The baby is still very small, but you may have gained a pound or two.  Breast continue to be tender, and may even begin to grow fuller, a welcomed site for some women.

My Experience

During this time, I am hearing a lot about constipation but so far I have not had any problems with it, I am still regular, and really do not feel pregnant all that much.  Morning sickness only occurs at night time when I am fixing to go to sleep, and I am guessing it doesn’t ever get bad because I am asleep.  I’ve only vomited once, early one morning this week but none since then.  My breasts are tender but nothing else has changed.  I haven’t told the people at work yet, I am a little worried about their reaction, and how I am going to work and have a baby.  My husband and I have not really discussed this yet.

Week 5 of Pregnancy

Week 5 of Pregnancy

This week, the embryo does not do much changing, it is till very small.  Your body may experience some changes, such as breast tenderness, having to go to the bathroom a lot more often, and nausea.  Eating crackers and small snacks through out the day may help with the nausea.  Constipation, gas, heartburn, discharge, dizziness, is all normal symptoms during pregnancy even this early on.

 In my experience

My husband and I told our family members we are expecting a baby.  I sent a picture of my positive pregnancy test to my mom.  She was thrilled to be getting another grandbaby.  My sister was excited too, as well as the rest of my family and friends.  I am 27, and they were all surprised it hadn’t happened yet. For my in-laws, we picked out a CONGRATULATIONS card and wrote on the inside, “Can you guess why?”  My mother in law guessed right away and almost fell out of her chair trying to give us hugs with excitement.  Our baby will be the first grandbaby and great grandbaby.  As for my feelings, I am a little nauseated but only at night time, which works out great because I am asleep.  In the back of my mind, I worry about the H1N1 vaccine, so I research and find out that it’s ok, my baby will be fine.  The H1N1 isn’t recommended for women who are pregnant because their immune systems are weaker.  I no longer worried because I never once had any symptoms or reactions to the vaccine.  I am starting to get a little excited about having a baby.  It’s almost surreal.

Week 1- 4 of Pregnancy

This month, at least by the end of it, you will have found out that you are expecting a little one. Perhaps by taking a home pregnancy test, the the lines became positive. You will want to go to the doctor for your pregnancy confirmation. Once that it is confirmed, you will want to prepare yourself for the next 36 weeks (9 months)

During the first 4 weeks, you may feel the pregnancy symptoms.  Those symptoms include

Zero Menstruation (or in some cases a very short one, which could be implantation bleeding)
Nausea with or without vommitting. (Morning sickness)
Sleepiness, fatigue
Gas and Bloating (that feeling of PMS but with gas too)
Food cravings or turn offs to food
Mood swings, sadness, or moodiness, emotional

These first 4 weeks go by quickly and you may not even know you are pregnant until the very last of the first month. Duringthese weeks, the embryo, which is your developing baby does not look human at all.  It looks more like a peanut or a bean. Hence the common nick names, “Peanut and Little Bean” The embryo is very small, and the only difference in the mother’s body is tender breast, and perhaps in some cases, a little swollen, similar to PMS.

Many women choose not to tell or share the news with anyone until further along in the pregnancy.  Miscarriage is more common during the first few weeks.

My Experience

November 6, I found out my husband and I are expecting our first baby.  Quite a surprise to us really. I was on the pill, and we had just gotten married 2 months before.  I had a period but it only lasted 1.5 days so I was not really alarmed but since I had been on the pill I have had 2 periods a month.  When I never officially started either one, so I bought a home pregnancy test and to my surprise it was positive.  I showed my husband, and we decided that I will go the next day and get it confirmed.  Since it was a Saturday, I chose to drive 30 minutes away to a place called Hope Pregnancy Center.  They were really friendly and had me urinate in a cup, and they tested it and confirmed my pregnancy.

Now looking back, in October, I was feeling nauseated, but I passed it as nerves or catching a bug.  I had started a new job, and there were a lot of changes in my life.  I had also felt a little emotional around my birthday, maybe even a little aggitated which isn’t like me at all.  I passed it as stress, I am not getting any younger, and wasn’t feeling good that day.

A few days later, I got the H1N1 vaccine, they had asked me if I wanted the spray or the injection.  Since I didn’t think there was a chance I was pregnant, I asked for the spray.  I also got the flu vaccine.
